What the LASU Cut Off Mark Simply Means
A cut off mark is the lowest score a university accepts before it considers you for admission. Nigerian universities cannot set a mark below the minimum JAMB approves. They are free to set a higher one.
Two kinds of cut off mark matter here:
- The institutional cut off mark (195). This decides whether you can register for screening.
- The departmental cut off mark. This is the final aggregate a candidate needs to be admitted into a specific course. It depends on how many people apply, how many places the department has, and how well applicants score.
LASU lists 195 as the minimum UTME score on its portal. At the time of writing, we found no official departmental cut off list from LASU for 2026/2027. Be careful with websites that publish exact departmental figures. Many of them are estimates.

LASU Admission Requirements 2026/2027
A. UTME (100 Level) Candidates
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| UTME score | At least 195 in the 2026 UTME |
| First choice | LASU selected as first choice institution on JAMB |
| O’Level | At least five credits, including English Language and Mathematics, in not more than two sittings |
| Result upload | O’Level result uploaded on JAMB CAPS before the screening deadline |
| Age | At least 16 years old on or before 1 October 2026 (as reported in published screening guidelines) |
Candidates who did not choose LASU during UTME registration had to change their institution through a JAMB-accredited CBT centre before they could register for screening. LASU states that applications from candidates who have not chosen it as first choice will not be processed.
B. Special Course Requirements
Some programmes have stricter rules.
| Programme | Extra requirement |
|---|---|
| Medicine and Surgery | All O’Level credits in one sitting |
| Dentistry | All O’Level credits in one sitting |
| Engineering | Two sittings allowed. Subjects include English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and relevant science subjects |
| Aeronautic and Astronautic Engineering | A credit in Further Mathematics |
Subject requirements differ from course to course. Check the course requirements page on the LASU screening portal and the current JAMB brochure for your chosen programme before you apply.
C. Direct Entry Candidates
For 2026/2027, Direct Entry candidates also had to obtain a Direct Entry form from JAMB and select LASU as first choice. Published guidelines say the screening window ran from 12 September to 26 September 2026.
According to the same guidelines, only the LASU Diploma is accepted for Direct Entry, except for NCE holders applying to the Faculty of Education. Direct Entry candidates also need five O’Level credits relevant to their course, from no more than two sittings. Those applying for Engineering with two sittings need six relevant credits.
LASU JUPEB candidates who chose LASU as first choice can also use the screening portal. The portal says JUPEB candidates must have taken part in the 2025/2026 LASU JUPEB programme.
How LASU Calculates Your Aggregate Score
LASU uses a 60/40 formula. Your UTME score carries 60 points and your O’Level result carries 40 points. In previous years the split was 50/50, so your JAMB score now matters more than it did before.
Step 1: UTME Points
Divide your UTME score by 400 and multiply by 60.
Step 2: O’Level Points
LASU scores your five best relevant subjects. The grade points commonly published for this exercise are:
| Grade | Points |
|---|---|
| A1 | 8 |
| B2 | 7 |
| B3 | 6 |
| C4 | 5 |
| C5 | 4 |
| C6 | 3 |
Five subjects at A1 give the maximum of 40 points.
Step 3: Two Sittings Penalty
If you combine two sittings, 0.3 marks is deducted for each subject taken from the second sitting. This rule favours candidates who have all required credits in one sitting.
Worked Examples
| Candidate A | Candidate B | |
|---|---|---|
| UTME score | 260 | 300 |
| UTME points | 39.00 | 45.00 |
| O’Level grades | A1, B2, B3, C4, C4 | A1, A1, B2, B3, B3 |
| O’Level points | 31 | 35 |
| Total | 70.00 | 80.00 |
| If two subjects came from a second sitting | 69.40 | 79.40 |
These examples show how the formula works. They are not predictions of who will be admitted. The grade point scale and the penalty come from published summaries of LASU’s formula, so confirm them against LASU’s official notice for your session.

How to Apply for LASU Screening 2026/2027
LASU does not run a physical Post-UTME exam. The process is online and based on the grades and scores you submit.
- Make sure LASU is your first choice institution on JAMB.
- Confirm that your O’Level result is uploaded on JAMB CAPS.
- Open the LASU admission screening portal and choose your candidate category.
- Log in with your JAMB registration number and surname.
- Pay the screening fee through the portal’s payment link. Some education sites reported the fee as N2,000, but confirm the amount on the portal.
- Return to the portal, click Start Screening, and enter your transaction ID.
- Fill in your personal, O’Level and JAMB details, then review everything before you submit.
- Log in after processing to view your screening outcome.
Your screening result depends on what you enter. A wrong grade, a mismatched name or a missing CAPS upload can cost you the admission, so check each field.
Why a High UTME Score Is Important for LASU Admission
Meeting 195 puts you in the pool. It does not put you at the front of it. LASU is a popular choice among Lagos applicants. One education site reported that LASU received about 70,000 applicants in the 2025 UTME, making it the most sought-after university that year. Treat that figure as a reported estimate.
High demand means competitive courses usually need much more than the minimum. Medicine, Law, Nursing and Computer Science tend to draw many applicants. Less crowded courses sometimes admit candidates with lower aggregates. If your score is close to 195 and you want a very competitive course, consider a second-choice course with fewer applicants.
Candidates from Lagos should also note LASU’s Indigeneship Verification process. The official portal includes a re-validation link for candidates already cleared in 2024 or 2025.
Common Mistakes That Cost Candidates Admission
- Not having LASU as first choice on JAMB
- Skipping the O’Level upload on CAPS
- Entering wrong grades during screening
- Using two sittings when a one-sitting result was possible
- Missing the screening deadline
- Applying for a course without checking its subject requirements
- Trusting unofficial cut off lists as final
What Candidates Should Do Next
The 2026/2027 admission cycle is largely done. Newly admitted students are moving through clearance and matriculation. If you were not admitted, you have a few options:
- Check the LASU portal and your JAMB CAPS profile for any supplementary admission updates.
- Prepare early for the next UTME. Aim for a score well above the minimum and write your O’Level subjects in one sitting if you can.
- Collect your results and confirm your CAPS upload well before the next screening window.
- Follow the official LASU website for the next session’s cut off mark and requirements, since these can change.
